Texans Outlast Jags
MATT SCHAUB, ANDRE JOHNSON SET CAREER HIGHS
In a game where the mighty Texans defense couldn’t seem to stop the usually stagnant Jaguars offense, Matt Schaub led the Texans back from a 14 point 4th quarter deficit to win 43-37. Jags QB Blaine Gabbert hurt his elbow early in the game and was replaced by Chad Henne who provided a huge spark on the bench. Justin Blackmon became a favorite target as the game progressed and finished with over 200 yards receiving. But the show belonged to Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson who led the Texans to two touchdown drives in the 4th quarter to tie the game at 34. Texans Kicker Shayne Graham had a chance to win the game for the Texans at the end of regulation but shanked a 47 yard attempt as the game went to Overtime. The Texans got the ball first in OT and both teams traded field goals evening the score to 37 apiece. The Texans had one more chance to win with two minutes left in OT. Matt Schaub threw a screen to Andre Johnson who was left wide open, and he was off to the races. The crowd erupted as Johnson hopped up into the stands into the arms of frenzied Texans fans. It was a great win for the Texans who shined in the face of adversity. Matt Schaub finished 43-55 for 527 yards along with 5 TDs and 2 INTS. Those 527 yards are good for 2nd all-time in the NFL. Johnson finished with 14 catches and 273 yards and 1 TD. That was the most receiving yards in a game since T.O. got 283 yards for the 49ers in 2000. The Texans next game is on Thursday at 11:30 AM vs. the Lions.
