NBA MVP Race
There is alot of great talent in the NBA this season with several great teams and several great story lines.
One of the main story lines would have to be “Who is going to win the NBA MVP this year?”. Is it going to be Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, or Lebron James. James and Bryant have already won the award, with James winning it the last 3 seasons consecutively. Durant will be looking for his first MVP title this year along with the Clipper’s pointguard Chris Paul. Last but not least the NBA cannot forget that there is a dark horse contender wearing green in Boston named Rajon Rondo.
If Bryant continues to flourish in D’antoni’s system he could very well win his second MVP title because he is now averaging “Michael Jordan like” numbers and had his 18th career triple-double earlier this season against the Houston Rockets. If D’antoni runs his offense through Kobe, Kobe can sit back and play the role of the “Black Mamba” striking at the opposing teams defense whenver he wants. To conclude, Bryan at his age in D’ antoni’s system with his scoring abilities is already a top MVP candidate early this season.
With James playing on the most talented team on the NBA it will be highly unlikely for him to win the MVP seeing that he has already won the NBA MVP the last 3 seasons. The only way to consider James being the MVP is if he averaged a triple-double for the whole season. Having the Heat as one of the top teams in the NBA and averaging that triple double might just be enough to put Lebron James high in consideration for this years MVP.
Kevin Durant is the “sexy pick” for MVP this year. Durant is currently averaging over 25 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists. He is greatly improving his defensive game this season. Durant, already a 3 time scoring champion, is looking for an MVP to go along with those trophies!
Now we cannot forget about the NBA “Little Men” Chris Paul and Rajon Rondo who are the 2 best point guards in the NBA. Rondo is trying to get his team back to the NBA finals this year as a result of the Boston Celtics coming so close last year. With His playoff performances last year and the way he has opened up this season, Rondo has to be considered as an MVP candidate. Chris Paul in LA coming off his olympic gold winning summer is looking to lead his team, the LA Clipper, back to the playoffs again. This year their not hoping for the second round. Lob city is aiming for the Western Conference finals and/or the NBA Finals. Paul with his toughness and work ethic has all the ability to lead the team to the championship just like he lead team USA to the gold medal in the last 2 olympic games.
These are just the top 5 candidates so far in this early NBA season. There are several other players who could be on this list including Tony Parker, Carmelo Anthony, and Kevin Love. Love is injured right now and we do not know the outcome of Anthony’s or Parker’s season. What we do know is we will get to see in May who will actually hold the NBA MVP trophy.
