Monday Night Football Preview: Texans vs. Jets
The Houston Texans will be in New Jersey on Monday night to play a New York Jets team who has a lot to prove. Coming off of a 34-0 loss against the Giants, the Jets will need to be at their best to have a chance against the undefeated and rolling Houston Texans. The Jets are fighting through some key injuries including CB Darrelle Revis and WR Santonio Holmes, both of whom are out for the season. Revis is the Jets best player, while Holmes is the top playmaker on the offensive side of the ball. Jets WR Stephen Hill is also questionable for Monday night’s game, so the struggling Mark Sanchez will need to play lights out to score points on the Texans’ #1 ranked scoring defense. We could also be seeing a higher dose of Tim Tebow in this game.
The Texans on the other hand, have hardly been tested this season, averaging a 20 point margin of victory. Matt Schaub has played tremendously at quarterback, and his 105.3 passer rating is good for third in the NFL. The Texans’ running game has not quite clicked yet, averaging only 3.7 yards per carry, but they are still 9th in the league in rushing yards, averaging 137 yards per game.
On the defensive side of the ball, DE JJ Watt has been playing like an MVP and has been rewarded for his efforts with the AFC Defensive Player of the Month Award. The Jets and Mark Sanchez will be under pressure all night from Watt who has 7.5 sacks on the season. The game kicks off at 8:30 Eastern / 7:30 Central on ESPN.
