Kendrick Lamar “K-Dot Training Day” Mixtape Download & Stream
Kendrick Lamar, also known as K.Dot releases his 2nd Official Mixtape K-Dot Training Day, Hosted by DJ Skee and under the Top Dawg Entertainment label.
Kendrick Lamar Duckworth (born June 17, 1987), known simply as Kendrick Lamar, is an American hip hop recording artist from Compton, California. Initially signed to independent record label Top Dawg Entertainment, in 2012 Kendrick Lamar and the label signed a joint venture deal with Aftermath and Interscope Records. Lamar is also a member of West Coast hip hop supergroup Black Hippy, alongside label-mates and fellow California-based rappers Jay Rock, Schoolboy Q and Ab-Soul.
On K-Dot Training Day young Kendrick Lamar raps to beats that were popular from the 80s-2007, such as Jay-Z‘s “Show Me What You Got“, Notorious B.I.G‘s “Who Shot Ya“, Slum Village‘s “Players” as a tribute to late producer J-Dilla, and Andre 3000‘s “Prototype“. Here, all the songs features a Lil Wayne copycat flow, but the mixtape gets Kendrick to rap to some killer old skool/new skool beats. Features come from Jay Rock, EmJae, Punch, and more. During the mixtape, a story kind of starts to build up as you listen to the mixtape from scratch, where skits before the song plays come up. On the cover, it has a byline that says “In the next 26 tracks, you’ll learn about the streets“, and this is where you know that a story builds up. There are interviews in the middle of the mixtape with fellow DJ, DJ Dave about his flows, lyrics and life.
Overall K-Dot Training Day shows a much rawer young rapper, here we see a Kendrick Lamar who clearly aspires to be like other rappers, and hasn’t come into his own yet, but the lyrical talent is evident nonetheless, and the tape is definitely worth a listen. The tape sees K.Dot freestyling over a range of classic beats, as well as a number of original cuts with appearances from Punch and Jay Rock, it also contains segments of interview with a surprisingly level-headed 17 year old Kendrick; a good insight into the developing mind of the young artist.
