Jordan Michael Houston (born April 5, 1975), better known by his stage name Juicy J, is an American rapper, record producer and Academy Award-winning songwriter. He is a member of the duo Three 6 Mafia and is currently signed to Taylor Gang Records.
Lexus Arnel Lewis (born March 6, 1991) better known by his stage name Lex Luger, is a record producer from Suffolk, Virginia who is signed to 1017 Brick Squad Records. The basis for his stage name came from professional wrestler Lex Luger.
Lex Luger started his career by playing drums and learning about beats, measures, and bars. He started experimenting with an MPC 2000 that he bought from his uncle and finally began using the PC-based digital audio workstation Fruity Loops, which he uses to this day. In each of his productions, he has become known for using his signature electronic sounding “build-up” in the beginning and throughout his productions, usually before the beat drops.
Juicy J welcomes himself into a successful career as a solo artist alongside Lex Luger with this second installment of their Rubba Band Business series. Boasting a hefty 28 tracks and backed almost exclusively by Lex Luger production, the mixtape sits at the forefront of a sound (partially inspired by the creativity of Juicy‘s earlier Three 6 Mafia recordings) that would later result in massive hits like his own “Bandz A Make Her Dance” But before any of that happened, it was on this project that Juicy began carefully cultivating that style.
Much of Juicy J‘s subject matter from the first Rubba Band Business—drugs, sex, money—remains intact on its sequel, but more so than on the previous release, it’s on this tape that he organizes those ideas into better song structure. “My mansion sitting on 40 acres, who da neighbors/Kobe Bryant from the Lakers, now that’s paper” grows from an amusing quip on the Wiz Khalifa-assisted “Erryday” to its own full-blown, club-rattling chorus on “Who Da Neighbors“. Records like “A Zip and a Double Cup” and “So Damn Fucked Up” take Juicy‘s “trippy” mantra from catchphrase to musical force.
Juicy J stays in his lane on Rubba Band Business 2, chronicling his trippy lifestyle and love for drugs, girls, and partying. While Juicy’s lyrical content and Lex Luger’s hi-hat and rapid fire snare sound may get repetitive at times, RBB2 definitely provides some bangin’ anthems for those memorable party nights that probably can’t actually be remembered the next morning.
