J Cole & Dreamville release their First Collaborative Mixtape Revenge Of The Dreamers, Presented by Dreamville Nation. The 11-track tape has Features from fellow Dreamville artists J. Cole, Bas, Omen, K-Quick, and Treasure Davis. The tape also samples from Tupac’s “Ambitionz Az a Ridah” and contains the original version to “Crooked Smile”.
J Cole and his Dreamville team surprise us with this new compilation project titled Revenge Of The Dreamers. Celebrating J Cole‘s 29th birthday today with a major announcement. The Roc Nation MC has revealed that his Dreamville imprint has signed a partnership with Interscope Records, which ultimately led to the release of this new compilation project. The new 11-track mixtape features fellow Dreamville artists J. Cole, Bas, Omen, K-Quick, and Treasure Davis. He has also launched his own Dreamville label with InterscopeRecords.
“This shit started back in 07′ summertime. Muhammad crib. (Check the logo on the back of the come up.) Dreamville partnered with Interscope Records (RIP Pac!),” he said. “Congrats to the Dreamville staff, the movement. This is only the beginning. Enjoy the tape!” – J Cole
First up is Bas, who paints verbal pictures of both where he’s at and where he hopes to go on the aptly titled “Golden Goals“. J. Cole fans may be familiar with Queens-raised Bas, who hit the road as an opener for the Roc Nation MC on his What Dreams May Come Tour. Bas was also featured on “New York Times“, a Born Sinner bonus cut.
Next is Omen. Longtime J. Cole followers should already be acquainted, too, as Omen was the only feature (“The Badness“) on Cole’s 2009′s breakout mixtape, The Warm Up. Omen‘s lyricism was sharp then and, as he displays here, it’s only evolved in the four-plus years since. Omen‘s reflective, personal rhymes make “Motion Picture” an early highlight, while “Henny Flow” serves as a sonic playground for his various tones and cadences. J Cole also joins in on the fun, first with Bas and singer/producer KQuick on the previously released “Lit“, and later with both Bas and Omen for “Bitchez“. Jermaine then lends an assist to Sony/RCA-signed songstress Treasure Davis on the tape’s penultimate cut, “May the Bitter Man Win“.
The Revenge Of The Dreamers acts as a sampler mixtape of sorts that includes his Dreamville roster featuring Bas and Omen on multiple songs. There’s three new J. Cole songs, a track with a sick sample of “Ambitionz Az A Ridah” and the original version to his hit “Crooked Smile“. The dream lives on.
