John David Jackson (born November 18, 1977), better known by his stage name Fabolous, is an American hip hop recording artist from Brooklyn, New York. His first release was the 2001 Ghetto Fabolous, which spawned the hit singles “Can’t Deny It” and “Young’n (Holla Back)“. His second release was the 2003 album Street Dreams, which spawned the two top-10 hits “Can’t Let You Go” with Lil’ Mo and Mike Shorey, and “Into You“, with Tamia/ Ashanti. Fabolous is also known for his songs, “Breathe“, “Make Me Better” from the 2007 album From Nothin’ to Somethin’, “My Time” and “Throw It in the Bag” from his 2009 studio album Loso’s Way.
Fabolous was born on November 18, 1977 of Dominican and African American descent. He grew up in Brevoort Houses in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. While in high school in twelfth grade, Fabolous began to pursue a rap career. He was invited to rap live on DJ Clue‘s radio show and on WQHT Hot 97, where he was signed to Desert Storm Records. He was featured on several DJ Clue mixtapes and mixtapes with Roc-A-Fella artists. This earned Fabolous and Desert Storm a distribution deal with Elektra Records.
On December 22, 2011, during an interview with XXL Fabolous explained the mixtape will feature him “bullying” again, saying: “I got some original joints on there but, there’s also more energy with this one,” he said. “I think with the first There Is No Competition, it was more like [me] just rapping and spitting but, this one I wanted a little more energy just because coming off of Soul Tape, that was like my perspective flows, slower beats, and stuff like that so I wanted to give the Ying to the Yang. I wanted to give these niggas some ignorant [shit] but still bars.”
Fabolous also explained why There Is No Competition: Death Comes In 3′s would be the final chapter in the mixtape series, saying: “I think that’s what happens with movies sometimes with the ‘Jason Part…’ 9s, 10s you [end up] losing a little bit of flavor because you’re just recreating the same thing ten times,” he shares. “So, I think this one might be the final installment of the There Is No Competition series.” With the sixth Fabolous studio album, Loso’s Way 2, due out in 2013, There Is No Competition: Death Comes In 3′s was the perfect way to end a notable year for the Brooklyn MC.
