Big Sean’s massive “Detroit” mixtape is available & Features Chris Brown, Tyga, Juicy J, King Chip, French Montana, and Royce Da 5’9 with Kendrick Lamar on the same joint, plus more.
Detroit is the fourth mixtape by American rapper Big Sean. The album was released for free download on September 5, 2012 by Kanye West‘s, G.O.O.D. Music. Detroit features guest appearances from fellow rappers J. Cole, Juicy J, King Chip, French Montana, Royce da 5’9″, Kendrick Lamar and Tyga , along with track narrations by Common, Young Jeezy and Snoop Lion. Wale and Wiz Khalifa are also featured in the bonus tracks. American singers include Chris Brown, Jhené Aiko, James Fauntleroy and Mike Posner. Production derives from Hit-Boy, Da Internz, Lex Luger, KeY Wane, among others. The mixtape consists of completely original songs.
Big Sean has undeniably grown to become one of the biggest artists in the game right now. With his sophomore album on the horizon, Sean describes himself as being hungry again, which you can hear all throughout Detroit, which features a wide range of different sounding songs with an extremely well thought out structure behind the project.
Big Sean has seen his stock rise since finally becoming famous (no pun intended) last year and he’ll definitely make more strides once G.O.O.D. Music’s Cruel Summer drops. But until then, he’s blessing us with his first solo project since his album, dedicated to his hometown and aptly named the Detroit mixtape.
Sean’s been largely keeping records under wraps, devoid of singles, with just a small preview of the J. Cole-assisted “24 Karats of Gold”, but nothing more than that, so quality and direction can only be speculated at this point. But for those folks who weren’t huge fans of his debut, it’s a safe bet to look for Detroit to be free from mainstream label meddling and more like the comically entertaining Big Sean from FF3.
The highly-anticipated mixtape caused the mixtape site DatPiff to crash upon the mixtapes eventual release. Detroit was viewed 1.5 million times on the day of release and was downloaded close to 700,000 – with 500,000 downloads within three hours! It has been downloaded over a million times. The tape was named the 26th best album of 2012 by Complex Magazine. Without further adieu, this is Detroit.
