Aggies Stun #1 Alabama
JOHNNY MANZIEL SHOCKS THE WORLD, SHOWS AGGIES BELONG
After Texas A&M jumped to a quick 20-0 lead in the 1st quarter, The Aggies and Crimson Tide battled for the next three quarters in what turned out to be the game of the year. The first quarter was dominated by the Aggies as they scored TD’s on their first 3 drives. Kicker Taylor Bertolet missed the extra point after the third TD. Alabama responded and outscored the Aggies in the 2nd quarter 14-0. Alabama QB AJ McCarron led two methodical, physical touchdown drives down the field, one of them coming after a failed 4th down attempt by A&M. The 2nd half was another story. Great Defense by both teams led to what was essentially a stalemate in the 2nd half. Bama kicker Jeremy Shelley snuck one inside the uprights to cut the lead to 20-17 in the 3rd quarter. The Aggies responded with a field goal of their own early in the 4th quarter to extend the lead to 23-17. Then the game heated up. Bama marched down the field until their drive was halted by a fumble from RB T.J. Yeldon. A&M was able to put together a drive of their own topped of by a beautiful 24 yard touchdown pass from Manziel to Malcome Kennedy. A&M went for two to try to make it a 14 point game but failed leaving the score at 29-17 with 8 minutes to play. Alabama took no time to score a touchdown of their own as AJ McCarron connected with Amari Cooper on a 54 yard TD pass with 6 minutes to play. A&M went three and out on the following drive giving Alabama 4 minutes for a chance to score a touchdown to take the lead and possibly win the game. Alabama continued where they left off on the previous drive when McCarron threw another 54 yard bomb this time to Kenny Bell, bringing the ball inside A&M’s 10 yard line. Alabama got the ball down to the 2 yard line to make it 4th and goal. Alabama decided to run a pass play in spite of their domination of the run game. McCarron tried to throw a quick out, but A&M cornerback DeShazor Everett jumped the route and caught the game winning interception. It looked like Alabama would have 30 more seconds to try and score one last time, but their Special Teams jumped offsides as A&M was punting so the Aggies got an automatic first dowm, sealing the win. Great win for the program and Coach Kevin Sumlin. Manziel finished the game with 253 yards passing with 2 touchdowns. He also had 92 yards on the ground. WR Ryan Swope had 11 cathces for 111 yards. AJ McCarron had over 300 yards passing but threw his first 2 interceptions of the year. Don’t be surprised if Johnny Football is invited to New York for the Heisman ceremony.
