2 Chainz finally drops his anticipated T.R.U. REALigion mixtape featuring the likes of Meek Mill, T.I., Young Jeezy, Kreayshawn, Big Sean, Raekwon, Trey Songz, and production from Lex Luger, Drumma Boy, FatBoi Southside, Mike Will and more.
T.R.U. REALigion is the seventh mixtape by American rapper 2 Chainz. It was released on November 1, 2011. One of the mixtape’s songs, “Riot“, peaked at #15 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 and #54 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and would later be included on his debut album Based on a T.R.U. Story. Since its release, T.R.U. REALigion has been downloaded over 500,000 times on DatPiff, certifying it as 2× platinum. It features guest appearances from Cap1, Meek Mill, T.I., Kreayshawn, Young Jeezy, Yo Gotti, Birdman, J-Hard, Big Sean, Jadakiss, Dolla Boy, Raekwon, and Trey Songz.
Tauheed Epps (born September 12, 1976), better known by his stage name 2 Chainz (formerly Tity Boi), is an American rapper. He hails from College Park, Georgia. He attended North Clayton High School with R&B singer Monica and exceeded his teacher’s expectations of him by finishing second in his class. He later attended Alabama State University to play basketball. He was first known for being one-half of southern hip hop duo Playaz Circle, along with longtime friend and fellow rapper Earl “Dolla Boy” Conyers. They were best known for being signed to Ludacris‘ Disturbing tha Peace label as well as their debut single “Duffle Bag Boy“. He is currently signed to Def Jam Records, an imprint of Universal Music Group.
Following the release of an independent album titled United We Stand, United We Fall (2002), the duo were introduced to fellow Atlanta rapper Ludacris, when he moved into their College Park apartment complex whilst he was acting as a DJ. After taking interest in Playaz Circle, Ludacris began to record several songs with the group, playing some of them on his radio station. Ludacris soon become one of the highest-selling rappers in the South of the United States. After hearing of their situation, Ludacris requested of Epps that the duo join his newly formed record label Disturbing Tha Peace, a subsidiary of Def Jam Recordings. Epps agreed to sign, although Conyers did not officially join the label until his mother regained her health a year after the initial signing.
Throughout 2 Chainz‘ career, critics and fans alike have speculated the name “Tity Boi” was meant to be derogatory towards women, although he repeatedly denied such accusations. In early 2011, Epps decided to change his stage name to 2 Chainz as he perceived it to be more “family friendly“. Following his name change, Epps released a mixtape entitled T.R.U. REALigion, which became his first mixtape to appear on the music charts, peaking at number 58 on the US Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Since the success of his most recent mixtape, Epps has made numerous guest appearances on tracks by prominent recording artists such as, Kanye West‘s single “Mercy” and Nicki Minaj‘s “Beez in the Trap“. The clean versions of “Got One“, “K.O.” “Riot” and “Money Making Mission” are featured on DJ Angry‘s compilation “Tha Clean Versions Vol. 1“. “No Lie” is also included.
The production, for one thing, is bulletproof. “Letter To Da Rap Game” gives 2 Chainz and guests Dolla Boy and Raekwon a chance to talk hard over a perfectly-flipped sample of Gladys Knight’s theme to the bond movie License To Kill. “Undastatement” is Lex Luger in his epically thudding comfort zone, whooping ass. Fat Boi’s “Vi-Agra” beat has classic Atlanta horn-bursting bombast working for it. “One Day At A Time” is a bluesy slow-crawl with an indelible violin bit that floats in and out of the track beautifully. And there’s just not a single weak beat on the entire hour-long track. There’s some musical variation in there, but it mostly works the sinister synthetic boom that’s ruled Atlanta rap for years. Really, it could’ve come out and sounded great at any point over the past decade.
Since the release of the TRU Realigion album, 2 Chainz has made momentous strides. He facilitated his first solo worldwide tour, selling out most dates, nominated for over 13 BET Hip Hop Awards, bringing home 4 trophies, earned the Source Magazine’s “Man of the Year ”, release a collaborative endeavors with ADIDAS and Beats By Dre and is nominated for 3 Grammy’s, including Best Rap Album.
